(ANSA) - Rome, May 23 - Newly installed Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi said Thursday she will set up a department to deal with the notoriously bloated, corrupt, and inefficient city-owned or partially owned companies. "It is important we begin the reorganization right away," Raggi said on her way into city hall.
"We must assess the current board members to understand what they have done and what they haven't done - obviously, we will reorganize them too".
The newly elected mayor proceeded to enter city hall, where she was greeted by the staff.
"It's nice to see so many women in the administration," Raggi said.
Then she leaned out the balcony of her office overlooking the Imperial Forums, and was visibly moved while waving at press and supporters gathered below.
The newly sworn-in mayor met with her interim cabinet, as is the praxis, to make contact with the city's administrative machine.
Earlier, reporters asked Raggi whether she preferred to be called by the feminine or the masculine version of the Italian word for mayor ("sindaca" or "sindaco").
"Just call me Virginia," she answered.
