(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 7 - Italian Premier Mario Draghi said Monday that other countries should follow Italy's example after it froze assets belonging to several Russian oligarchs at the weekend in application of sanctions imposed over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
"I'd really like to see similar measures taken by all our countries," Draghi said in English during a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen before the two leaders had talks in Brussels.
"Now we must all be rapid in the implementation of this".
At the weekend, the Italian government said that it had impounded assets worth a total of around 140 million euro from Russian oligarchs.
These assets included a yacht worth around 65 million euros belonging to metals magnate Alexei Mordashov, one worth around 50 million owned by billionaire Gennady Timshenko and a Sardinian property belonging to another magnate, Alisher Usmanov. (ANSA).
