(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 14 - A Russian oligarch's yacht, the
biggest sailing yacht in the world, was seized in Trieste at the
weekend as part of western sanctions on Moscow for its war in
Ukraine.
The 530 million euro Sailing Yacht A belonging to Andrey
Igorevich Melnichenko had been in dry dock in the northeastern
Italian port for repairs since January.
The yacht has been sequestered, meaning it cannot leave the
dock.
Other yachts have been seized from other oligarchs deemed to be
close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Italian maritime engineering giant Fincantieri had been doing
repair and maintenance work on the Sailing Yacht A.
Designed by 'starchitect' Philippe Starck and built in Germany,
A is the largest sailing yacht in the world.
It is 143 meters long with three masts and eight decks and has a
partly glass bottom to observe the underwater world.
The yacht flies a Bermudan flag. (ANSA).
