(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 13 - The 19th term of the Italian
parliament officially opens on Thursday with the first sessions
of the Senate and the Lower House after last month's general
election won by the right-wing coalition.
The first task is the election of the new Speakers of the two
chambers.
Former defence minister Ignazio La Russa, a founder member of
the Brothers of Italy (FdI) party of likely future premier
Giorgia Meloni, is favourite to become Senate Speaker.
The Lower House Speaker is expected to be a senior member of
Matteo Salvini's League. (ANSA).
