(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 30 - President Sergio Mattarella told people in Emilia Romagna that "the whole of Italy is close to you" as he visited the region on Tuesday after this month's devastating floods there that claimed 15 lives and caused massive damage to agriculture, the economy and infrastructure.
"You will not be alone in the reconstruction, which must be rapid," the head of State said in the city of Forlì.
Mattarella stressed that the reconstruction effort is important for the whole country, not just the northeastern region itself.
"This is a challenging and difficult time," he said in Forlì.
"I have seen how much needs to be done, with courage and commitment, and I know that you will succeed because you have that drive in these areas.
"There is a need for reconstruction. It is a national necessity and you can be sure that there will be constant support'. (ANSA).
