(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 30 - Premier Giorgia Meloni told trade
unions on Tuesday that the government was working on
"reinforcing the pension system" with a special focus on "future
pensions".
"We have to guarantee the stability of the system and avert the
creation of a social bomb in the coming decades," she said at
the meeting, according to sources.
Demographic factors pose a challenge to the Italian pension
system.
Italy has an ageing population and declining birth rates, which
means fewer young people are entering the labour market and
paying into the pension system in the place of people who are
retiring. (ANSA).
