EC vice president to meet Meloni, Piantedosi in Rome

(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 13 - Italy is playing a key role in helping secure a European agreement on migration and asylum, said European Commission (EC) Vice President Margaritis Schinas at the start of a two-day mission to Rome.
    "Glad to meet with PM @GiorgiaMeloni in Rome today," tweeted Schinas.
    "Italy is playing a key role in helping secure an EU agreement on Migration and Asylum - something Europeans going to the polls next year need to see.
    "Italy is truly a force for stability in Europe and the Mediterranean," he concluded.
    During is time in the Italian capital the Greek politician responsible for coordinating the EC's work on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum will also meet with Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Universities Minister Anna Maria Bernini and Deputy Premier and Foregn Minister Antonio Tajani, according to a statement from the Commission.
    The meetings will focus on the new Pact on Migration and Asylum, which Poland and Hungary are blocking, as well as EU priorities in the areas of skills and higher education, the statement said.
