(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 22 - Anti-gay General Roberto Vannacci was
replaced by his immediate superior and an internal probe into
the furore caused by his self-published book slamming gays,
feminists, Jews, environmentalists and migrants launched on
Monday, the Italian army said Tuesday.
Vannacci was replaced as head of Italy's military geographical
institute in Florence by Division General Massimo Panizzi, his
direct superior in the chain of command, said the army.
The measure was taken "to safeguard both the army and General
Vannacci, who has been over-exposed in the media by the affair
linked to his book", it said.
A probe aiming to "ascertain the facts" was opened at the same
time, the army said.. (ANSA).
