(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 23 - The election of Silvio Berlusconi's
longtime soccer No 2 and close friend Adriano Galliani in his
former Senate seat at Monza is "a sign of affection for dad",
the late four-time ex-premier and media mogul's daughter and
heir Marina Berlusconi said Monday.
She said she was "delighted" with Galliani's election to the
Senate in Monza in the seat that once belonged to her father,
which she sees as a sign of the voters' affection for the
Cavaliere (Knight of Labour), who died aged 86 in June.
"I am really very happy for the election of Adriano Galliani, a
close friend of my father's," the family Fininvest holding
president remarked.
"Together they succeeded in the feat of bringing Monza Calcio
back to Serie A after 110 years.
"His election testifies to the great affection of the people of
Brianza towards my father: today his seat goes to a person of
great human and professional qualities, who will certainly do an
excellent job in Parliament and in the institutions".
Galliani, 79, was CEO at AC Milan from 1986 to 2017 when under
Berlusconi's chairmanship the Rossoneri won five Champions
League trophies and eight Serie A titles.
He then followed his mentor to Monza, at the time in Serie B, in
2018.
The Monzans were promoted to Serie A for the first time in 2020.
