(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 26 - Premier Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of
Italy (FdI) party were among those irked by opposition +
Europea's 'alternative' Christmas card showing four presepe
Nativity scenes featuring two Madonnas, a Jesus of colour, two
Josephs, and a single Mary mother of two kids.
"The provocation of +Europa which alters the composition of the
traditional presepe verges on the ridiculous," said FdI MP
Lavinia Mennuni.
"I don't understand this desire to attack one of the most
beautiful and profound symbols of our Christian tradition."
Carlo Fidanza, FdI-ECR delegation chief at the European
Parliament, simply said "pathetic".
The inclusive stunt even spurred one of +Europa's own MPs,
Italo-Albanian Anita Likmeta, to leave the party accusing it of
"wanting to commit suicide, and not even assisted".
The various Nativity scenes posted on X were accompanied by the
message: "The beauty of traditions...is that they can change".
