(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 1 - The father of Ilaria Salis, a
39-year-old Italian school teacher and anti-Fascist activist on
trial in Hungary for allegedly attacking two Hungarian neo-Nazis
almost a year ago, said Thursday that the family is sue Deputy
Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini for defamation.
Footage this week of Salis with her hands and feet chained
during a court hearing in Budapest have caused a public outcry
in Italy.
The case is at the centre of political row, with Salvini and his
League party repeatedly criticising the woman.
Her father Roberto Salis said the family will take legal action
over Salvini saying his daughter was part of a group that
damaged a gazebo used by right-wing League in Monza in February
2017 and assaulted two young women present.
Her lawyers said on Wednesday that Ilaria Salis had been
acquitted in relation to that case.
"We will have Ilaria give us the appropriate power of attorney
because, following the statements damaging her reputation with
regard to the alleged assault on the League gazebo in Monza, we
have decided to sue Matteo Salvini for defamation," Roberto
Salis told ANSA, adding that the family would also take legal
action against two prominent Italian journalists, Giuseppe
Brindisi and Alessandro Sallusti.
Earlier on Thursday Salvini said that, if Salis is convicted,
she should not be able to teach in Italy again. (ANSA).
