(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 8 - Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said
Thursday he did not agree with one word uttered by Eric Zemmour,
the controversial far-right French politician whose Reconquete
party on Wednesday joined the European Conservatives and
Reformists (ECR) caucus led by Tajani's domestic ally and
Premier Giorgia Meloni.
Asked if Zemmour's joining the ERC might cool relations with the
centre-right European People's Party (EPP), of which Tajani's
post Berlusconi Forza Italia (FI) is a part, the FM, who is also
deputy premier, said "I don't share a word of what Zemmour
says".
As well as now Reconquete, the ECR includes Spain's Vox and
Poland's Law and Justice Party.
The ECR was founded around the Movement for European Reform
following the 2009 European elections at the behest of then
British Conservative Party leader David Cameron. Currently it is
the fifth-largest group in the European Parliament with 66 MEPs
from 16 countries (ANSA).
