(ANSA) - ROME, APR 8 - Bologna University's Muslim students
said Monday they would like to see lectures suspended for Eid
el-Fitr on April 10, when Muslims celebrate the end of their
fasting for the holy month of Ramadan.
They said they would like to see all Italian universities
suspended lectures on that day.
"I think it is an excellent idea to propose the suspension of
university classes on the day of the end of Ramadan. It should
be extended to all Italian universities because it would be good
for all Muslim students," said Osama, one of the leaders of the
Young Muslims of Italy in Bologna.
"The end of Ramadan is a very important holiday for us and it
would give Muslim students the opportunity to be with their
families," he added.
"We will therefore discuss this with young Muslims from other
cities and we are also ready to submit a request to the
University of Bologna".
A school at Pioltello near Milan where 40% of the students are
Muslim has been criticised for closing down on Eid. (ANSA).
