Compatible majority in EU or I'll be in opposition - PM

We can find synergies in the centre right, never with Left

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 31 - Premier Giorgia Meloni said Friday that she would remain in opposition in Europe unless a "compatible" majority could be found amid speculation her Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group may try to replace the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) as partner of the European Peoples' Party (EPP) after next month's European elections.
"I can't be with the Left in the EU," she said in an interview with Skuola. net.
"I think that a compatible majority must be built in Europe too.
With rainbow majorities you can't do anything.
"We can find synergies in the centre right, but never with the Left".
She added: "I will defend national interests without being part of others' majorities in the European parliament".
Meloni's rightwing Brothers of Italy (FdI9)party is a domestic partner of the centre-right post Berlusconi Forza Italia (FI) party, which is in the EPP, and of the rightwing League party, which is in the other rightwing group, Identity and Democracy (ID). (ANSA).
