(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 20 - Democracy needs media that look at
reality freely, President Sergio Mattarella said Thursday.
"Democracy needs a press capable of looking at reality with
freedom, with intelligence and with a critical spirit", he said
in a message published in the Gazzetta di Mantova for the 360th
anniversary of the oldest newspaper in Italy, founded in 1664.
The message also comes ahead of the president's visit next
Saturday to Solferino and Castiglione delle Stiviere near Mantua
on the occasion of the anniversary of the foundation of the Red
Cross. (ANSA).
