(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 27 - The construction sites for the
Messina Bridge linking Sicily to mainland Italy will open by the
end of the year, Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo
Salvini said Friday. saying he was "confident" of this after a
string of delays.
"I am confident that the construction site of the bridge over
the Strait of Messina will open within the year". said Minister
of Infrastructure Salvini, interviewed in the Piazzetta in
Portofino.
"If the environmental impact assessment is approved in November,
we will approve the final project in December and then open the
construction sites," he said.
"Estimated time, 7 years".
The project will build the world's longest suspension bridge
despite fears linked to environmental concerns, the high cost
