(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 9 - It is false that the government wants to raise taxes, Premier Giorgia Meloni said Wednesday saying that "we will not ask Italians to make fresh sacrifices".
"I've been reading fanciful statements these hours that the government wants to increase taxes on citizens: it's false," Meloni said in a video on social media.
"Left-wing governments used to do this, we lower taxes, as employees, working mothers, and self-employed workers know well.
"So I want to be clear once again, the political culture of this government is to reduce taxes, support families and support businesses, not the culture of further burdening citizens".
She went on: "Although some in the opposition would like, for example, the introduction of property taxes, additional taxes, we will remain faithful to our commitment, which is to work for a budget that relaunches the economy, improves the lives of Italians, without asking them for new sacrifices".
