(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 13 - Premier Giorgia Meloni has had a
telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu and "reiterated the unacceptability of UNIFIL being
attacked by the Israeli armed forces," the Italian premier's
office said on Sunday.
Meloni recalled that the peacekeeping mission "acts under a
mandate from the (UN) Security Council to contribute to regional
stability" and "stressed the absolute necessity that the
security of UNIFIL personnel be guaranteed at all times," a
statement said.
She also "renewed Italy's commitment in this sense, saying she
is convinced that through the full application of resolution
1701 we can contribute to the stabilisation of the
Israeli-Lebanese border and guarantee the return home of all
displaced persons". (ANSA).
