(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 24 - 5-Star Movement (M5S) leader Giuseppe
Conte on Sunday accused Western governments of trying to inflict
a military defeat on Russia via their support of Ukraine and
said this policy was "madness".
"We must make overwhelming calls to our leaders to force a
breakthrough in negotiations to end the Russian-Ukrainian
conflict," ex-premier Conte said during a public discussion with
Sahra Wagenknecht, the leader of Germany's BSW party, at the
M5S's 'constituent assembly'.
"We said from the beginning that this escalation would only lead
us to the brink of World War III.
"If the goal is to inflict a military defeat on Russia, we must
clearly say that this is madness, without that meaning we should
be accused of being pro-Putin".
Conte, whose controversial reforms for the M5S statute are being
voted on at the assembly, also spoke about the International
Criminal Court's (ICC) arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu.
"In the same way, we say that the Netanyahu government is a
criminal government, which must answer for its criminal conduct,
without that meaning we should be accused of anti-Semitism".
