(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 7 - A lawyer for alleged victims of Libyan
alleged war criminal Osama Almasri said Friday he and his
colleagues were evaluating other possible complaints to the
International Criminal Court after a Sudanese refugee on
Thursday complained to the ICC about possible obstruction of
justice by Premier Giorgia Meloni, Justice Minister Carlo Nordio
and Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi after the general was
arrested in Italy only to be released and flown back to a hero's
welcome on board an Italian secret service plane.
"We are evaluating the possibility of filing other complaints to
the International Criminal Court related to the Almasri case,"
said lawyer Omer Shatz, director of Front-Lex, the organization
of human rights lawyers that filed the complaint with the judges
in The Hague on behalf of the Sudanese refugee.
"They are his (Almasri's) victims, those who feel most
humiliated and disappointed by the conduct of the Italian
government, because they are the ones who wanted to see Almasri
judged and tried".
Nordio and Piantedosi told parliament earlier this week that
Almasri, wanted by the ICC for alleged murder and rape of
persons as young as five, had to be released because of mistakes
in the ICC warrant and flown back because he was a danger to
Italy.
The centre-left opposition says Premier Giorgia Meloni gave in
to alleged blackmail from Libya due to Almasri's key role in
stopping migrants leaving for Italy and also due to Italian
energy giant Eni's interests in the north African country.
