(ANSA) - L'Aquila, January 16 - Black truffles contain a
chemical compound similar to the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)
present in cannabis, a research team from three Italian
universities made known Friday.
The compound, anandamide, is a neurotransmitter that was
first isolated in 1992 and named after the Sanskrit word ananda,
meaning bliss.
Scientists later discovered it is also present in
chocolate.
Researchers at L'Aquila and Teramo universities made the
discovery that the so-called Bliss Molecule also exists in
truffles along with colleagues from the Biomedical Campus
University in Rome.
