(ANSA) - Milan, August 3 - Milan's Expo's green lungs, its
Biodiversity Park, is being illuminated by 79 street-light
bottles to illustrate an innovative, sustainable way of
providing lighting.
The initiative is the result of the agreement between the
environment ministry and the Liter of light non-governmental
organisation.
The lights are solar-powered and use simple materials to
ensure zero impact on the environment.
"It's an initiative of great value because of the message
that it manages to transmit - that technological innovation and
environmental protection must progress together in a circular
economic model capable of creating sustainable development,"
said Environment Minister Gian Luca Galletti.
Liter of Light is a global, grassroots movement that uses
inexpensive, readily available materials to provide high quality
solar lighting to people with limited or no access to
electricity.
