(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 2 - The mother of a young Ukrainian girl
affected by a rare and fatal genetic heart condition has
appealed to Italian authorities to help her get a rare American
drug that is unavailable in Italy and is the only treatment that
can save her daughter's life.
The girl's heart already stopped three times in quick succession
on the night of July 22 and she was revived by emergency doctors
at Naples' Sea Hospital.
The mother, a Ukrainian doctor called Oleksandra Kotsiborska,
said "I thanks the Sea Hospital with all my heart and I appeal
to all to help make the US drug available so that my daughter
can live".
The rare genetic heart condition, called Long QT, manifests du
to ventricular arrhythmia and causes fainting, syncope and
sudden death. (ANSA).
