(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 29 - The first joint heart and liver
transplant has been carried out at Turin's Molinette Hospital on
a 38-year-old patient with a heart condition who had previously
gone through multiple heart surgeries, medical sources said
Sunday.
No such joint transplant has been previously reported in Italy
and in Europe and there are just a few known cases in the United
States.
The patient, who is from Rome, was on a waiting list for an
urgent transplant due to her critical condition, which is
managed by the National Transplant Centre, in cooperation with
Piedmont's regional centre (ANSA).
