(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 13 - Turin doctors managed to operate on a
pregnant woman with rare tumour in the cartilage inside her
skull, enabling her to carry the pregnancy to term in a world
first, the Città della Salute (Health City) agency said on
Sunday.
Doctors at Turin's Molinette Hospital used a minimally invasive
endoscopic technique to remove a chondrosarcoma, which usually
affects long bones, that was diagnosed in the 36-year-old
patient during the fourth month of pregnancy.
The operation lasted around three hours.
The woman went on to give birth by caesarean section in the 38th
week of pregnancy at Turin's Sant'Anna Hospital, which, like the
Molinette, belongs to the Città della Salute.
The mother, who must continue treatment for her cancer, and the
baby are now at home. (ANSA).
