(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 25 - Doctors at Turin's Molinette Hospital
have saved a 40-day-old baby from blindness thanks to a surgical
procedure in which 3D technology was used in a world first.
The baby boy was suffering from a congenital cataract associated
with a very rare and serious pathology of the back of the eye.
The operation, a bilateral vitrectomy combined with congenital
cataract surgery via 3D visualisation was performed on the front
and back of both eyes by the hospital's ophthalmology
department. (ANSA).
