(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 15 - Italy's Marcell Jacobs said Wednesday that he is not being coy about the fact he is aiming to defend the Olympic 100 metres gold medal he won in Tokyo three years ago this summer at Paris 2024.
"I have to say that it is a lot of responsibility to go to Paris as defending champion," the 29-year-old said after doing tests with the Italian Olympic Committee's (CONI) Institute of Sports Medicine and Science at the Stadio dei Marmi in Rome.
"I will give it my all. Only two athletes have won two consecutive golds in the 100 and I'm working to do that. I'm not hiding from it," added the sprinter, who was hit by a series of injury problems after Tokyo 2020, at which he also helped Italy win gold in the 4x100m relay.
"When you win an Olympics you have a lot of expectations.
"After the gold I should have done more work on the mental side than I did before. Instead, I lost myself a little.
"But now I want to regain that title. I feel good, I'm ready and I'm fine". (ANSA).
