(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 12 - Gigi Buffon said Wednesday that Italy
are being underestimated ahead of Euro 2024 and says he senses
similarities to the Azzurri's victorious campaign at the 2006
World Cup, which, like this years Euros, was held in Germany.
"I was very curious about what my feelings would be were ahead
of these European Championships," the former Italy and Juventus
captain and goalkeeping great, who is now the national team's
delegation head, told a press conference at the Azzurri's base
in Iserlohn.
"I can see that the feelings and situations I am experiencing
are similar to 2006. "The adrenalin has risen because I want to
make my small contribution.
"'In my opinion this national team is probably underestimated.
"But it is very competitive, first and foremost because of the
human depth of the guys that make up the squad.
"They have a great sense of belonging to the national team".
Reigning European champions Italy start their Euro 2024 campaign
against Group B rivals Albania on Saturday.
They beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 in Empoli on Sunday in
their final warm-up friendly. (ANSA).
