(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 13 - AC Milan have appointed Paulo Fonseca as their new coach, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a senior advisor for club owners RedBird, announced on Thursday.
"Milan's new coach will be Paulo Fonseca," Ibrahimovic told a news conference. "We studied it well. We chose him to bring his identity and the way we want the team to play, with a dominant, offensive style of play.
"Fonseca is the right man. We are confident and we believe in him a lot".
The 51-year-old Portuguese coach's former clubs include AS Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk.
He has been in charge of Lille for the last two years, leading them to a fourth-placed finish in the French top flight in the 2023-24 campaign.
Milan parted company with Stefano Pioli after a winless campaign last season. "We wanted to bring in something new," Ibra continued.
"We studied how he (Fonseca) coaches, how he prepares matches.
After five years we needed something new". (ANSA).
