(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 11 - Italy's Lorenzo Musetti has said he is ready for a "big fight" with tennis great Novak Djokovic in the men's semi-finals at Wimbledon after beating Taylor Fritz 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-2, 3-6. 6-1 on Tuesday to reach the last-four of a grand slam for the first time.
"He's a legend everywhere, but especially here at Wimbledon," said Musetti, 22, after becoming only the fourth Italian man to reach the semis of the tournament after Nicola Pietrangeli (1960), Matteo Berrettini (2021) and Jannik Sinner (2023).
"I expect a big fight. It's one of the toughest challenges. But I'm an ambitious guy and I like to be challenged." The 25th seed's triumph also keeps Italy's hopes of having a champion in the men's singles alive after world number one Sinner was knocked out by Daniil Medvedev.
"I don't think I've realised yet what I have done," Musetti said.
"I was talking with my team about how to play on the big stage... It was the first time I've had the opportunity to walk out on this amazing stadium and it's been an honour for me".
