(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 19 - Lazio began their Serie A season with a 3-1 victory over newly promoted Venezia on Sunday.
Magnus Kofod Andersen scored for Venezia, giving the team an early lead but Lazio reacted with Valentin Castellanos equalising just eight minutes later and captain Mattia Zaccagni's penalty on the stroke of half-time gave Lazio the lead in his 35th goal contribution in Serie A since the 2021-22 season.
Venezia's hopes were then wiped out after Giorgio Altare scored an own goal.
Lazio's city rivals Roma on Sunday ended their opening match with a goalless draw against Cagliari.
In another game on Sunday, Udinese secured a draw at Bologna with the team dominating with 22 shots compared to Udinese's four.
And in a shocking start of the season, Hellas Verona beat Napoli 3-0 with Napoli's Antonio Conte - the fifth coach hired in a little over a year - watching his new team lose in his first match back in Serie A.
Dailon Livramento and Daniel Mosquera scored on their Serie A debuts to give Verona a victory on the opening weekend of the Italian league season.
Napoli meanwhile lost a key player, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, to injury.
Lazio and Verona are now leading the premier league table after the opening weekend of the season, ahead of Milan, Genoa and Inter. (ANSA).
