(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 9 - Italy's first individual Olympic
gymnastics medal winner Vanessa Ferrari said Wednesday she was
retiring after a string of injuries that kept her out of the
Paris Olympics after she got silver in Tokyo.
The time has come to say enough," the 33-year-old told
Bresciaoggi, her home town daily.
"I had already decided before Paris: those Olympics would have
been the last act of my competitive career.
"I wanted it to be the end of my career. I'm sorry it wasn't
like that. I'm calm. Physically, the injuries are making
themselves felt." (ANSA).
