(ANSA) - Vatican City, December 7 - Benedict XVI will
attend the ceremony on Tuesday when Pope Francis opens the Holy
Door of St Peter's Basilica to start the Catholic Church's
extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.
Benedict, who stepped down from the helm of the Church in
2013, never opened the Holy Door during his eight-year papacy.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Premier Matteo
Renzi are also set to take part in the ceremony, amid a massive
security operation in the wake of last month's terrorist attacks
in Paris.
