(ANSA) - Mexico City, February 15 - Pope Francis will travel
to the state of Chiapas in Mexico's south on Monday to visit
indigenous people of the area bordering Guatemala, many of whom
suffer extreme poverty.
On Sunday during his Angelus in Ecatepec, near Mexico City,
the pontiff blasted narcos, calling them "traffickers of death".
He called on Mexicans to "be on the front lines, to be
proactive in all the initiatives that could help make this holy
Mexican land a land of opportunity".
On Monday Pope Francis will celebrate Mass with the
indigenous people of San Cristobal de Las Casas, in a ceremony
officiated in three local languages in addition to Spanish,
followed by lunch with local indigenous representatives.
Later in the afternoon he will visit families at the
stadium in Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of Chiapas, before
arriving back in Mexico City around 8 p.m. local time.
