'9.1 mln pilgrims in Rome for Jubilee'

(ANSA) - Vatican City, June 9 - A reported 9.1 million pilgrims have travelled to Rome since the Jubilee Year started six months ago, said Thursday Monsignor Rino Fisichella, president of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelisation, who is overseeing the Jubilee.
    Fisichella said that during the Jubilee Year of Mercy, which started on December 8, 9.100,935 pilgrims have visited the four Jubilee Basilicas - St Peter's, St John Lateran, S. Maria Maggiore and S. Paolo Fuori le Mura - and the Sanctuary of our Lady of Divine Love.
    Presenting initiatives for the Jubilee of the Sick and the Disabled, which starts Friday through Sunday, he also said the "significant number" showed pilgrims wanted to travel to meet Pope Francis, although the Jubilee was designed to be lived around the world and not exclusively in Rome.
