(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 2 - The devastating effects of the climate crisis have already create an offence against God and the hour is urgent to mitigate them, Pope Francis said in his address to the plenary session of the COP28 UN climate conference Saturday, read out at Expo City in Dubai by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin as Francis has been prevented form attending in person by a bout of chronic bronchitis and fever.
    "Unfortunately I cannot be with you as I would have wished, but I am with you because the hour is urgent," the pontiff's message read.
    "I am with you because, now as never before, everyone's future depends on the present we choose.
    "I am with you because the devastation of creation is an offence against God, a sin that is not only personal but structural and that spills over onto human beings, especially the weakest, a grave danger that hangs over everyone and that risks triggering a conflict between generations".
