(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 3 - All manifestations of hatred towards
Jews and Judaism are a sin against God, according to Pope
Francis cited by the Vatican daily L'Osservatore Romano on
Saturday.
In a letter addressing "the Jewish brothers and sisters of
Israel" the pope is reported as saying: "The path that the
Church has begun with you, the ancient people of the Covenant,
rejects all forms of anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism,
unequivocally condemning manifestations of hatred towards Jews
and Judaism as a sin against God".
L'Osservatore Romano reports that the letter was sent by the
Pope to theologian Karma Ben Johanan, one of the promoters of an
appeal to the Pontiff signed by some 400 rabbis and scholars for
the consolidation of Jewish-Christian friendship after the
unprecedented and brutal October 7 Hamas attacks against Israel
that sparked the war in Gaza. (ANSA).
