(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 10 - Rome must be at service of "the last", the most forgotten and marginalised members of its community, Pope Francis said at Rome city hall at the Capitol (Campidoglio) on Monday.
"The universal spirit of Rome must be at the service of charity, at the service of welcome and hospitality," he told centre-left Mayor Roberto Gualtieri.
"Let pilgrims, tourists, migrants, those in dire straits, the poorest, the lonely, the sick, the imprisoned, the excluded be the truest witnesses of this spirit.
"May Rome continue to show its true face, a welcoming, hospitable, generous, noble face." Francis looked out over the Roman Forum with Gualtieri and then had a private meeting with the first citizen.
"Thank you Your Holiness, Rome loves you", said the Democratic Party (PD) mayor, stressing that "with the Jubilee Rome will speak to the world" next year. (ANSA).
