(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 4 - Pope Francis during his Sunday Angelus
prayer called for peace, referring in particular to the Middle
East as well as the "whole world".
"Enough brothers and sisters, enough.
Don't stifle the word of God, peace, but let it be the fruit of
the Holy Land", the pontiff said.
"Attacks, including targeted ones, and killings can never be
the solution, they don't help to take the path of justice, the
path of peace.
"But they sow even more hatred, revenge", the pontiff noted.
"I follow with concern what is occurring in the Middle East and
I hope that the conflict, already terribly bloody and violent,
will not expand further.
"I pray for all victims, in particular innocent children.
"I express closeness to the Druze community in the Holy Land and
to the populations in Palestine, Israel, Lebanon.
And let's not forget Myanmar", the pontiff said.
Speaking about the war in the Middle East in particular the
pontiff called for the "courage to resume dialogue" for an
immediate ceasefire in Gaza and on all fronts.
"Hostages must be freed, populations must be rescued with
humanitarian aid", the pope said during the Angelus prayer.
