(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 10 - The president of the lay Catholic
charity and conflict mediation Community of Sant'Egidio, Marco
Impagliazzo, on Satursday lamented the failure to accept the
appeal for a truce for the Olympics launched by Pope Francis,
saying it was a missed opportunity.
"It is very regrettable to see how the conflicts have never
stopped in this period and have continued and deepened with the
tragic consequence of civilian victims", he said after a fresh
Israeli air strike was reported to have killed 93 civilians at a
Gaza school shelter which Tel Aviv said was a Hamas hideout.
not mean that we should not continue in every possible way to
support the voice of the Pope calling for peace. As the
Community of Sant'Egidio we have promoted a meeting in Paris for
September with the theme 'imagine peace'. There is so much need
to imagine ways of peace," Impagliazzo told ANSA. (ANSA).
