(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 16 - Pope Francis has reiterated his call
for peace, expressing concern for the situation in Gaza and the
risk of an escalation into a broader conflict.
"I continue to follow with concern the very grave humanitarian
situation in Gaza and I ask once again for a ceasefire on all
fronts, for the release of hostages and for aid for the
exhausted population", Pope Frances said during his Angelus
prayer over Ferragosto.
"I encourage all to promote every effort so the conflict won't
widen and to pursue the road of negotiations so this tragedy
will end soon", he added.
"Let's not forget: war is a defeat", concluded the pontiff.
