Can't tell Italians 'see what you can do'

(ANSA) - Berlin, May 12 - German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said Thursday that "you can't simply close the Brenner (Pass) and tell the Italians see what you can do". He said there was a danger of the Mediterranean once more becoming a graveyard and stressed that Italy "can't be left alone". Austria has threatened tough border controls and even possibly a fence at the Brenner Pass should migrant flows through Italy from North Africa surge as they are expected to do.
