(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 1 - Italy is ready to minesweep Ukrainian
ports to free blocked grain exports, Foreign Minister Luigi Di
Maio told question time in the House Wednesday.
"We are pressing to create maritime corridors for transporting
food raw materials, above all grain, from Ukrainian ports," he
said.
"In order to achieve this, it is necessary to clear the waters
off the ports of mines, in particular Odessa, with the Russian
guarantee of safe passage of the cargoes.
"Italy has already expressed its willingness to take part in
possible mine-sweeping operations and it intends to favour a
central role by the UN and eventually other partners, such as
Turkey, in the actual implementation and coordination of the
operations". (ANSA).
