(ANSA) - ROME, APR 15 - The body of the 94th victim of the
migrant shipwreck disaster at Cutro in Calabria on February 26
was found Saturday, over 50 days after the tragedy.
The body is that of an adult male, in an advanced state of
decomposition, spotted on Praialonga Beach by a woman who was
passing by on the seashore.
It is difficult to estimate the man's age because of the
condition of his body.
It is 12 days since the 93rd victim was found and recovered.
Some 80 refugees and migrants survived the shipwreck, which
happened when a migrant boat carrying approximately 180 people
broke up in heavy seas in a rock shoal not far from the beach at
Steccato di Cutro in Italy's southern Calabria region.
Questions have been asked as to why the Italian coast guard
failed to go out and assist the boat.
The Italian government has denied suggestions there was any
deliberate delay, and passed a decree at Cutro last month to
clamp down on migrant smugglers and boost legal avennues for
immigrants to come to Italy. (ANSA).
