(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 26 - Disaster prevention is a key goal of Italy's massive EU-funded post-COVID National Recovery and Resilience Plan, a European Commission spokesman said Friday.
"Reducing hydrogeological risks is a key objective of Italy's recovery and resilience plan, which is particularly important considering the frequency and the very significant human and economic damage of the flood-related disasters that have hit the country", aid the spokesperson, referring to the 6 billion euros' worth of anti-disaster projects in the NRRP, outlined by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
"The plan will mobilise resources to restore damaged buildings and infrastructure and will seek to reduce the number of people affected by the hydrogeological risk by at least 1.5 million," he added.
Disastrous floods in Emilia-Romagna killed 15 people and wrought billions of euros in damage to property and crops last week.
