(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 14 - Over 1,600 migrants are currently at
the hotspot on Lampedusa after five new landings from small
boats crossing from Africa, sources on the stepping stone
island, which is closer to Tunisia than to Sicily, said on
Monday.
The facility's official capacity is around 400.
On Monday some 195 more migrants arrived on the island, mainly
from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Mali,
Sierra Leone and Gambia, all in sub-Saharan Africa. (ANSA).
