(ANSA) - ROME, APR 24 - The European Commission has launched calls for proposals under Horizon Europe's 2023-2024 digital, industrial and space work program for research and innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technologies, the EU executive said in a statement on April 23.
The Commission will invest over 65 million euros in AI, including 50 million that will be dedicated to projects aimed at developing new ways of combining data and the expansion of large AI model capabilities, according to the note.
Another 15 million euros will be invested in developing robust and transparent AI systems, the Commission said.
The projects are aimed at improving the reliability of AI systems and providing significant insights into their decision-making processes.
These investments will help develop AI technology in line with the AI Act and with the human-centric European approach to AI, the statement noted.
Moreover, 40 million euros will be invested to boost research into cutting-edge quantum technologies, of which 25 million will be devoted to the creation of a pan-European network of quantum gravimeters, or gravity sensors, it explained.
An additional 15 million euros will be invested in transnational research and development projects on next-generation quantum technologies, the statement said.
Another 7.5 million euros will finance projects that will support European values, placing citizens at the centre of the digital transformation and increasing the EU's influence in global ICT standardization, concluded the statement. (ANSA).
