(ANSA) - ROME, APR 24 - Palazzo Chigi sources on Wednesday
denied media reports that Premier Giorgia Meloni spoke to French
President Emmanuel Macron earlier in the day on the future
renewal of the top institutional posts of the European Union,
with former European Central Bank president and former Italian
premier Mario Draghi reportedly being one of the subjects
discussed as possible next president of the European Commission.
"Such rumours are wholly devoid of foundation," they said.
"As has been stated on several occasions," the sources added,
"Premier Giorgia Meloni thinks that any contact or negotiation
aimed at defining the future make-up of the Union's political
leadership can only take place after the elections for the
renewal of the European Parliament". (ANSA).
