(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 15 - Deputy Premier, Transport Minister and rightwing League party leader Matteo Salvini said Wednesday that the European Commission "boycotting" a planned merger between ITA and Lufthansa would amount to a "hostile act" against Italy.
The EU executive on Tuesday requested improvements to commitments made by the two national carriers to secure a green light for their merger by a deadline of July 4.
"Boycotting the union between Ita and Lufthansa would cause huge damage first and foremost for the workers', which is why if the European commission wastes time it would be extremely serious," he told Tgcom24.
"If someone in these hours is working to blow up the operation it is a hostile act towards Italy and Italians.
"It would be yet another demonstration that in Brussels there are Serie A and B citizens". (ANSA).
