(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 4 - Palermo University on Tuesday scrapped its Erasmus schemes with Israel as part of moves to sever ties with the Jewish State over its campaign in Gaza.
The academic senate of the University of Palermo has decided to suspend the Erasmus agreements with Israeli universities due to "the lack of essential security guarantees to which those involved in the cooperation partnerships would be exposed in this particular and delicate moment of international crisis", it said.
The Erasmus agreements in question also concern universities in Algeria, Georgia, Jordan, Lebanon, Ukraine, South Africa and Tunisia.
Furthermore, the academic senate decided to launch transparent procedures on research relations "for the elaboration of an ad hoc regulation on dual use (technology), which should be finalised by the summer break". (ANSA).
